Anyone familiar with Stamford TX area ?
I am seriously looking at a place a few miles north of there and wondered if anyone here was familiar with that area.

Had customers out there back in the early 80's. Nice country and nice folks.

Rain about 15 inches or so yearly, can get cold but doesn't last long, usually, it's pretty nice if you like to be somewhat out in the booneys,

Looks way out in the boonies to me. Personally, I would never want to retire to the boonies. Maybe have some sort of place out there as a second home but as I get older I want to be closer to everything I need such as doctors, stores, church, etc.

Stamford is about as far out in the Boonies as Mrs. Red Oak will consider; I mentioned Mentone and Gail and she didn't speak to me the rest of the day.

Personally, I don't want to live in a place that gets that little rain. I'm really fond of trees and grass.
Working to love my fellow person regardless : >

Not being a slave to yard work is a blessing to me, personally.
It leaves more time to hunting, shooting and other fun stuff.

More than one way to deal with that. I pay someone myself.

Frees up more money for fun stuff.
I like the looks of prairie grass, cactus, rocks, and dirt. Especially red dirt.
I enjoy seeing a section of Bluestem and Side Oats Gram waving in the wind a hundreds times more than a groomed lawn. I am different that way.
I would much rather grill Sand Hill Crane breast over mesquite smoke than dine at a five star restaurant. I would rather worry about hitting a deer or wild hog than a traffic jam on I 20.
I am tired of being a stranger in my home county.

I want to be able to walk to everything, like I can now.

I'm scared....GFB and Planosteve and I have all agreed on things in the same day. Is it safe for me to drive home or should I go buy some lotto tickets?

If you can go outside nekkid and nobody stares, , you just past the edge of the booney's.

Husband kept wanting to move to the boonies. I kept saying I wanted to be close to doctors, hospitals and stores etc.
The time he had to go daily for radiation for 3 months ended the talk of moving to the boonies.
We have the best of both worlds. Front yard = city back yard = country (in the city) We have a creek, wildlife and no neighbors on the opposite side of the creek.

But can you have a 1000 yard rifle range in your backyard ?

My Brother lives out that way. I spent some time hunting there over the holidays.
I love it out there, but could not live there.
