Postby ralph » Sun Mar 08, 2015 1:51 pm

--- https://www.youtube.com/v/AgYLr_LfhLo?v ... n_US&rel=0 --- good video , I remember watching similar on tely just about every weekend / Sunday with my Dad and Mom , Dad mostly as Mom was cooking . Think it was 'WORLD at War' and they ran for a couple hours . Now even the co called ' history channel ' is pretty nasty with lefty propaganda , imo !!

My father and older brother both served in the army.

And they both never had an interest in displaying, or discussing that they had ever been in the military..with anyone..it was all just bad memories for both of them..for different reasons.

..though my father kept in touch with some of the people he served closely with.

My brother never saw action, but he just wanted to get the heck out and forget it ever happened.

I'm sure my father did, too.

Of course for my brother..that was draft days. He chose to enlist because he had a low number.

And neither ever felt any kinship or ties to any modern day soldiers.

my Dad never talked about it , neither did my Uncles . Difference is that it was in the news papers and on tely with shows like World at WAR plus things like COMBAT and others . It was a fairly recent event in the late 50s when I was reading and learning . When I was reading newspapers on the front porch Dad [especially] was around so I could ask him questions . Thing is that he and the newspaper , plus school where a lot of young male teachers that had fought in ww2 or 'korea' were there to answer questions and let us kids know that things in peaceful America aren't the same all over the world . He11 , kids don't know about the 'holocaust' or 'pol pot' or 'mao' , stalin or 'lenin' but they know that the 'kardashians' have nice this and that .

Also, I had a great uncle that won the Medal of Honor in World War 1.

I've seen his picture, he looks just like my brother.

That's always interesting, huh? My sister has a picture of a great great uncle who looked just like my youngest brother. Fascinating.

I was always surprised when older men I knew for many years would pass away, & most everyone would find out only then they had served during WW2 or Korea. We'd see their medals & a folded flag on display at their funeral services. Sometimes even their own kids didn't know.
A bad peace inevitably leads to a worse war.
