I agree with you.

There is plenty of silliness on both sides:
"They crushed my son's dreams," she said of the school officials. "They made him feel upset. They broke his heart. He didn't deserve that."
Cry me a river. How silly can you be?
I hope the school gets reprimanded for it's idiocy and I hope the mother keeps her mouth shut.

I've never understood this super short hair thing on guys. I went to high school in the late 60s when we fought with the school boards & our dads to wear our hair as long as we could get away with. If you look at pictures of our guys fighting in Viet Nam, you'll notice a lot of them are pretty shaggy.

I don't know , seems that this kid wants his hair the same style as his military brother . I don't see how or why the school or anyone else has any say . I also think that nowadays you see kids running around with Mohawks which to me is , may be cute but weird .

Schools have hair standards, just like in the 60s
Kids push boundaries just like the 60s
In the 60s, when a child violated the hair code the result was immediate suspension.
Now parents cry about it , bloggers perpetuate the sniveling whiners complaint and mort is mad

It's ok if you disagree with me.
I can't force you to be right.

gotta fix the standards in the schools JIP , if the kid was a trangender cross dresser he'd be encouraged to use the restroom of his choice but here the kid just wants to emulate his big brothers hair cut style . I see no problem with a nice neat military haircut . Hope that the kid chews a poptart into the shape of a gun next !!

Re: boy suspendd from school because of Military haircut
We did transfer our kids out of Miller Grove school and into Rains ISD. It's the best thing we ever did. We lived on the county line. The reasons were mostly academic. Miller Grove had no chemistry, no physics, any everything was centered
around basketball since they didn't have enough kids for any other sport. The decision came when they wanted to pass a bond election to build a visiting team locker room. Uh, our kids had to go out in the rain to go to the bathroom. The bathrooms were in a different building. It was the best move we ever made regarding the children. They got scholarships to their college of choice. I went to Miller Grove last year and was amazed to see a new school. I wish them the best. But we're still very glad we transferred our kids.

We voted against that school...........not that it did any good. We have 2 schools within 7 miles of each other that graduate about a dozen kids a year. How stupid is that? Consolidation would be the smart way to go but when you have too many "it's always been that way and we don't want change" people there isn't much hope of that. What a blatant waste of money and resources...........and to the detriment of the kids.

That's what my husband told the "committee" meeting to plan for the bond election. However, I am very happy that some of the students there (adults now) sent friend requests on facebook to my kids and to me! They were and are good kids. They had different dreams and loved the agricultural life. While our kids still love the farm, they all are in different fields, but have fond memories of life there. When we sold the farm, the buyer was gracious enough to tell the kids that they would always be welcome there. Our neighbors were all special people, for sure.

Oh, I forgot to mention that one of the teachers put a bow in our older son's hair and marched him around the school. His teacher called me, very upset about it. Mike is not one to let those kinds of things bother him. He's always had confidence. But it did get us to thinking.....he had a John John haircut (if anyone remembers that). Knowing Mike, he probably enjoyed going into the other classrooms! So that wasn't the reason we transferred them. It was the thought that the kids would be very disadvantaged. Mike wanted to be an electrical engineer like his dad. If one of the girls wanted to be a nurse, not having chemistry and physics would have handicapped them.

Yes there are some really good people out here.
One of my brothers had a similar experience in an Austin school. The teacher also didn't like his hair length and made him wear bobby pens all day. He was completely mortified. Sadly, my parents were too woosy to raise a stink. That brother was an undiagnosed dyslexic and AHD. He eventually dropped out of school in junior high. Not because of that particular teacher but she certainly didn't help.
