petrified wood
petrified wood
I was walking around the place on the Brazos Breaks yesterday with the surveyor and found petrified wood scattered in with the gravel and gypsum eroding out of the bluffs, I thought it was kind of interesting.

Re: petrified wood
Neat. I haven't seen any petrified wood in many years. Are you collecting it?

Re: petrified wood
parent took us to the Petrified Forest when I was a kid . We had a petrified log laying on the raised hearth at my parents house for at least 55 years .
Re: petrified wood
I remember going to the Petrified Forest with my Grandparents when I was in high school. Isn't it out around the Grand Canyon somewhere?
Re: petrified wood
don't remember , think its in Arizona .
Re: petrified wood
I used to find fossils of all kind and petrified wood when my grandparents had a cabin at Lake Whitney.
Re: petrified wood
I picked up a couple of small pieces, I didn't have to to really look for it purposely.

don't know anything about the Brazos Breaks Bluffs but if a Bluff is what I'm thinking it is then stuff might be washing down all the time if it ever rains in the area .
Re: petrified wood
A little research turned up the possibility of a good chance of large animal fossils in the area.

We have several pieces of petrified wood that came from the Glen Rose area.
The national park is in Arizona, CM.

Petrified Forest is on the north side of I-40 east of the Meteor Impact Crater, I'll be driving past them again in a couple weeks .

We visited the meteor site. That's a dud stop! The graphics in the movie are circa 1950.
All was not lost as we had a little walk to break up the road trip.
