The US ecomony, like most, is so distorted now that it is almost impossible to imagine anymore how a free enterprise system should work. Especially, since such a large portion now works directly or indirectly for the govt. And this is because since the FED came into existance, the federal govt. can spend and borrow all of the money it wants with no limits. But, that can't last forever. And when it ends, look out below!

If that is true, how does that jive with your statement "That will continue..the largest segment of the population..is now retiring." ?

It means that the younger workers are joining the work force at a smaller rate that the older workers are leaving, if the percentage of workers employed is declining ? Correct ?

Or are you just throwing out disjointed statements ?

I wouldn't try too hard to understand basic economics..while we're in the age of Obama.

But no, there are fewer younger workers than there are baby boomers..so full employment among them may never equal the retiring numbers. That is why so many people are freaking out about Social Security and Medicare.

But if the economy is growing, that's where immigrants come in..to help make up the difference.

You have it backwards Greggo, if their are fewer potential workers, the Labor Participation Rate would INCREASE not DECREASE !

I am using the Labor Participation Rate; not the overall numbers of those employed. There are about the same or slightly more people employed than in 2008, but the population has grown by 12-15 Million, most immigrants - but the labor participation rate is where it was in the late 70s or early 8s. Also if a person works two part time jobs, that counts as two jobs; and there are more and more people with only part time jobs.

Yes - Under cutting the wages of American, driving up the number on Welfare, and the number of under and un-employable on the whole.

I have been using numbers all along..not labor participation.

That is how we started..talking numbers, and by me saying far more workers will be needed.

We can't expect labor participation to be wonderful when we have a President that hates successful people.
