Urban bobcats

We saw this segment on Texas Parks and Wildlife. I found it interesting---but I want to know the results of the study.

I've seen two bobcats here in Heath. Or maybe the same one, twice although the two sightings were pretty far apart fro each other.

The only bobcat I've ever seen was a dead one in the back of my neighbor's pickup. He was proud of his kill. All I could think was "Why in the world did you kill that poor animal that was minding its own business?" It wasn't attacking his livestock. It was just crossing a pasture. I simply do not understand the kill it because you can mentality...................unless you are killing coyotes or hogs. Both are a huge problem.

+1 Kill it and grill it: yes. Wild hogs and coyotes: yes (rats and squirrels, too). You need a big gun to compensate: no.

No. Being a coyote is reason enough to kill them, just like wild hogs, rats and squirrels. I wouldn't eat rats or wild hogs, either.

Bob Cats do a world of good keeping other varmint populations suppressed; Coyotes can do that also.

Bob Cats are very shy and wary animals, and generally do not cause any trouble.

My problem with Yotes is when they start eating the pets and livestock. Yotes are smart, if you shoot a handful every year they learn to stay away from your house and barn. Their hides use to be valuable.

Yep. They finished all my geese and ducks within 8 months of our moving here 25 years ago. After replacing some fowl a couple of times I gave up. Also couldn't keep chickens alive but the coyotes were joined in that murder by possums, skunks, and raccoons. I couldn't build a coop tight enough to keep all the varmits out and finally gave up on them too. Then there are the cats. Coyotes carried off probably about 10 or our cats. My dogs have a fenced yard and never go out after dark without supervision.

I'm too soft to shoot any living critter, even coyotes. Bob has to do that chore. Though I did beat a possum to death with a big stick many years ago. I caught it in the act of killing one of my favorite chickens.

Bobcats love squirrels, which puts them in good standing with me.

rank ful us to eat, but @ 200-250 lbs are good eating.

Where do you get them slaughtered?

What do you do with the hogs if you don't eat them? Leave them for the vultures and other creatures to eat??

One of the problems with leaving Wild Hogs in the field, is that other Hogs will eat the carcass. You have the possibility of actually increasing the density of Wild Hogs in the area.

Most Wild Hogs are good to eat, some are not, older Boars are so musky that they will run the buzzards off of a gut wagon.

The few I have killed I generally have ground myself into sausage, with some cuts, loins etc. cooked or frozen.

I will be stepping up the Hog killing as the Owlhoot is friggen overrun with them.

There have even been reports of wild hogs in South Irving and we probably still have them. They tear up yards.

Where do you get them slaughtered?

The ones I kill to eat I gut, skin and clean myself..I butcher and wrap themeat myself. The large hogs that I don't want to eat are given to families
in the area that will eat them....tamales, barbacoa, etc. I call them and they
are out quickly.
