So this happened today

Postby Sangersteve » Wed May 13, 2015 7:58 pm

I signed on with a new manufacturer week before last. In a past life I had used their equipment, but was painfully out of touch with the new technology, and told them as much.

I agreed to a retrofit/control wiring job in Grapevine as a starting point.

We were told that the start date was today and another service provider would install the new panel, run conduit and wire, we were to supply the brains to do the control connections.

We got there at 8ish and the first problem hit before we saw the equipment, the guy heading up the project wasn't there. So we hooked up with his second and were told that we were a day early. Nope the work order says 5/13/15. So he introduced us to the vendor doing the panels and pipe. He was nowhere near finished.

Well we grabbed the prints and started looking at the scope of the job. We started finding issues on the first page of the print. Finished finding issues at 11:30. Told my guy lets go eat lunch and call the mfg to talk about problems.

As we spoke to the mfg about all of the things we found not quite right, he was very quiet, when I got through I told him that since the job wasn't ready there would be a charge for todays time.

He took a deep breath and said that wasn't an issue and with all of the problems would we be willing to continue with the job, I said well sure, why?

Then I heard this, thank goodness we knew the were some unknowns and were afraid we would have to fly a factory guy in because this is the first time we've done this type of retrofit. Would you mind marking up the prints and your solution so we can offer this to other companies?

I replied, not an issue, but if we have to do your electrical engineering the price just went up.

He laughed a bit and said sounds like you do a better job in the field than our guys here at the factory.
It's a joke son,I say a joke

And good for you for charging them for doing more than was agreed upon. I need to take lessons from you.
Working to love my fellow person regardless : >
