Not new but a different twist

Postby Sangersteve » Tue Jun 16, 2015 1:15 pm

Seems like everyone, except the prosecutor and the judge, just wanted this to be over. I guess the moral is to tell your young sons and grandsons to ask for I.D.

Computer science student Zach Anderson, 19, met a girl, 17, on the "Hot or Not?" app. He was from Elkhart, Indiana. She was 20 minutes over the border in Niles, Michigan. They hooked up. Once.

But it turned out the girl was really 14. She'd lied to Anderson and also in her profile. Now Zach sits in a Michigan jail, serving 90 days. When he gets out he will be on the Sex Offender Registry for 25 years.

Does anyone thinking treating him this way is necessary to keep kids safe? Anderson and his family certainly don’t.

Neither does his supposed underage victim. The girl readily admitted that she lied about her age, and in this WSBT-TV interview her mother admitted that Anderson “didn't do anything my daughter didn’t do.” Everyone agrees the encounter was completely consensual. The only reason the police became involved at all is because the girl suffers from epilepsy, and when she didn't come home as quickly as expected her mom worried and called the cops for help.

In this excellent South Bend Tribune article, the mom told a reporter that she didn’t just ask the judge for leniency, "we asked him to drop the case."

But court records show that Berrien County District Court Judge Dennis Wiley (who once jailed a woman for 10 days over Christmas because she cursed while paying a traffic ticket in the county clerk’s office) paid none of the participants any mind. At sentencing he told Anderson, "You went online, to use a fisherman's expression, trolling for women to meet and have sex with. That seems to be part of our culture now: meet, hook up, have sex, sayonara. Totally inappropriate behavior. There is no excuse for this whatsoever."

tough being a kid nowadays although I'm old fashioned about casual sex . Don't mind the guy being in jail the 90 days but this sex charge may follow him the rest of his life . Seen the same happen to 19 year old guys with 17 year old girlfriends .

I believe he could tell by looking that a 14 year old was not 19.

I doubt he was looking with his big brain or looking at her face. If I were his parents I'd ground him for about a year for being stupid and having sex with someone he just met. Idiot!!!!

But what about the girl? Any punishment for her?

She's a slut who should be sentenced to taking care of babies and toddlers full time for 9 months.............using only cloth diapers. To me that would be the very worst torture.

Only if she had to wash the diapers by hand.

we did but that was 40 years ago . Think that its the way to go , disposable diapers cost money that I wouldn't spend money on them . Don't know if they were even available when I had little kids .

Disgusting!

I remember well, those nasty diapers and sticking them in the toilet to get the worst off. Oh, and diaper pails. Mom didn't had wash but took the nasty things to a laundromat where they were washed and given back to her to hang on the line. This was before coin op washaterias. We thought we were really up town when we got a "washing machine". It was a tub that held about 10 gallons of water and had a lid with an agitator. We still had to rinse, wring out and hang on the line as well as filling and emptying the machine but it seemed like a big luxury.

I believe having 2 younger boy siblings, a million neighborhood kids of all ages, and all the babysitting I did was what convinced me I never wanted children. Thank God for birth control!

yep , old style wringer washer is what my Mom had , think it was 'maytag' and I remember the clothes , diapers hanging on the line . Story goes that my Dad got personal credit to buy it . Credit didn't exist outside of personal credit at the time and that was probably about 1954 - 55 .

Did it sit on the back porch? Ours was definitely an indoor only machine as it had an electric motor in the lid.

Ah yes, Michigan winters.

I remember hanging clothes on the line when we were stationed in Illinois. In the winter the jeans could stand alone long before they dried. It was pretty funny.
