Thank you. I have to be honest. I was just a Pork Chop (Supply Corps). No great hero here...just a cog in the machine. But, damn it was fun...and LCDR is a great rank. People call you CDR mostly and you don't have to wear that crap on your cover.

I think there may be a misunderstanding. There is only me, Castle Doctrine. Some of the kids were speculating that I was someone called Mayhem. I'm not. I use Castle Doctrine because my own PERSONAL issue is the neutering of the Fourth Amendment in service to our various wars on abstractions. My position on LEOs will not be well received here, I fear.

My Dad was WWII Navy...aviator, flew SBDs. I was raised on WWII stories from him. He is gone now but I wish he had lived longer. I keep finding questions I want to ask him...especially since I went through his personal papers after Mom died. It appears he was quite the ladies man...and he has a multiple award of the Air Medal and a letter of Commendation from Halsey that appears to have a real Halsey signature.

When people thank me for my service I just say, "Aw, it was a lot of fun. I got to chase women all over the World...and they were easy to catch." My wife hates it when I do that.

Maine Coons are the most dog-like of cats...great friends.

I'm not sure how it came up, but I agree that Maine Coons are great cats. Only drawback is that they are super hairy and shed a ton. I have a 16 year old siamese I got from the shelter when he was only 1. He is my bud.

The cats with the long downy fur seem to shed the worst.

Nope. But, we keep ours shaved. They stay indoors anyway. So, once every 4 months or so...off to the vet for a shave. It is about 60 dollars each and well worth it.

Can't imagine how much someone would have to pay me to shave a cat but I'm thinking $60 is a good deal.

I would like to see a picture of a shaved Maine Coon. The only time I have heard of shaving cats is when one is rescued with it's coat in terrible condition. I adopted a Himalayan Persian. I ended up having to hack away at his coat with scissors...his fur was quite matted. From then on, I got the evil eye anytime I came near him with a comb. But otherwise he was the neatest cat.

I can't find my pics of Bubba when he was shaved. Delta is due soon. We wanted to let her settle down and get acclimated first. I'll put some pics of here up then. I'll keep looking for the ones of Bubba. You have to find just the right vet (groomers are more expensive and picky) to do the grooming. I have found a groomer here that will do cats but she is more expensive...but very good.

We started this because of a sort of rescue...my daughter moved out and left Falon. Now, he won't groom his belly. So, we got the idea to shave it...been doing it ever since. Bubba actually liked to go to the vet...he would walk into his carrier in the most regal way. DAMN, I miss him still.

Yep, losing pets is horrible. The pain endures for years. That's why some of us are crazy enough to spend almost any amount on them...............and blessed to be able to do so.

Besides her regular team of local Vets..Prissy had an Opthamologist, a cardiologist, and an Internal specialist.who is the one that became her main doctor the last few years.

I think I'm blessed in not having any interest in pets.
My wife loves dogs and we have always had at least one.
When she loses one she is devastated. I'm not pleased about it, but it doesn't really bother me.
I think people have enough heartaches without that one.

I can't imagine going through life without having a pet. The years of unconditional love makes it worth going through the pain of losing one. I will probably always have at least a cat.

I'm the same way with dogs. Can't imagine life without at least one Poodle. Bob loves 'em too but doesn't often admit it. The equines he would gladly do without.

I'm not a big dog person but I like all animals. My wife had a one-eyed poodle when we married. The dog was brilliant. She wasn't house trained when we met. Can you believe they locked her in the bathroom all day. It took me 3 days to house train her then never another mess...3 days! She only had one eye because she wasn't smart enough to chase cars and not catch them, though. She would run into doors and furniture all the time. Very sweet girl. I missed her a lot when she went.

I don't like big, aggressive dogs but I have spent a lot of time around Dobermans and Shepards. In many ways my life is one of contradictions. I abhor war but look what I did with my life. I'm not really religious but I raised my kids in the Church (Catholic). I am a born and raised racist yet I try to advocate for equality and fair treatment as strongly as possible. I am an absolute coward but I am drawn to stuff that is dangerous...DC&FF in the Navy, private pilot, a bit of sky diving, honky-tonking (long ago). Sort of strange. I really have just tried to have fun and do good as I saw it. Mostly, it has worked out...I have three kids that love me and two grand daughters that adore me (the third is only 9 months old...I'll get to her soon enough). Yeah, I'm pretty happy...but I do want a dog. Also strange.

We finally got the dog because of the girls. Figured my youngest needed one. But dogs tie you down much more so than cats, don't they Sue?

How did you find this place? Were you part of the old DD? I don't recognize the name....

How did you find this place? Were you part of the old DD? I don't recognize the name....

I found this site through a Google search and some poking around. I really settled on trying here because I was familiar with the platform. DD was another board that a number of people here frequented? I have never been a member of a board that would be abbreviated DD. I was looking for a new board because of changes in the moderation policy where I was before. Do you mean my handle or my real name?
