Which discounts? It's up to the business that is giving the senior discount.
Most that I have seen are for 65 and over.

Depends on the business. Shlitterbahn was 55. AMC Theaters is, I think, 60. Wyndham Hotels has a senior discount, but it's the same as AAA so I usually use that. A lot of businesses take your word for it, but some want to see I.D.

Our local senior center thinks we are antique at 55. I'm long past antique in that case.

A lot of senior discounts have gone the way of the dodo birds. At one time you could have free all you could eat lunch at the Brazilian Steakhouse.

As mentioned, many discounts begin at age 55.
Some places don't advertise it, just judge you age by your appearance and give the discount.
(should we be insulted that we look the age?)

I also think, if a person looks "mature" and asks for the discount, no place makes them prove it.

I know what you mean. Bob's dad died at 68. I was so glad when he turned 69 and was still healthy.

My Dad died at 89. Mom is that age and still going strong. Her mom lived to 104.

I'm not sure if we should be insulted or not LL. It startled me at first, but hey, I just accept it with good grace now. Or at least I hope I do. At the car wash the other day, I just wanted the exterior of the car washed. The inside was clean, er,uh, decent anyway. So, the cost is $8.95. The gal rang up $8.05. I said something and she said, you've been coming here a long time and I've always given it to you. I never noticed before! Does that affect the tip I give? LOL!

Heck, you are probably the youngest person active on this board. I don't think you look old enough to be a grandmother. However I have a friend who is a grandmother and is only 38.

Seeing all the replies you guys put out there is fun. I got my DL renewed today and the Lady said you sure don't look 60. Also every Thursday at City Market I do qualify for the discount. Took tonight off, cooking LARGE T-Bones form the meat market, having pop with foam on top, and back at it tomorrow.

My two youngest sisters were born when my mother was 39 and 40. She and Daddy were asked MANY times about their grandchildren. "Are they twins?"

My mother actually created the twin statements by dressing the two girls a like. They are 13 months apart.

I found myself in that weird timeframe where my kids got a child's discount and I got the senior discount.

That would probably only happen to you BT. It also means that if your employer offered early retirement, you might not take it. College tuition has skyrocked in the last few years. Most scholarships aren't a full ride anymore. I think we'll have some granddaughters here with us next year. One graduates after summer term. She really wants a job around Dallas. Her sister wants to do community college first and she'd have to drive to Flagstaff every day, then back up the mountain for 2+ hours. I won't let her go to Eastfield. But I did see in the paper the other day that Collin County Community College has classes here in Rockwall and A&M Commerce staff will then move into the same building. My daughter is checking on it now since I didn't read the whole article.
BT, doesn't A&M have a good drama program? They did when I was there.

I don't know about the drama program at A&M Commerce but I do know that their music education program is a good one.

Yes, I would love to retire but I have several more years of college to deal with. Fortunately #2 son is pretty smart and we are hoping he will get at least a partial academic scholarship. Dare we hope for a full ride?

Maybe some smart politician could come up with a bill that gives senior parents a break on tuition for their children. Of course, it might only apply to me.

The good news is that the mortgage will be paid off in a couple of years and I can put that money towards college expenses. The bad news is the wife wants to do some remodeling.
