I have no idea if this is true but I have heard that the Tongans first came to the area to help build DFW Airport.

We met several Trinity Tongans on the fb recruiting trail. College coaches told us they came to DFW for the construction work, stayed to work as baggage handlers. Don't know if that is true, but they are some big guys...

That sounds about right. What I can tell you is that a few of them came and settled in. When they started working as baggage handlers, they would fly home and tell others how great it is in Texas, and they just kept coming, typically getting jobs at the airport so they could travel back to Tonga. They are a beloved part of the community now.

Tongans are great family people, very involved in church, and respectful of authority.

First Tongan I ever met was Eileen Vanisi: 5'10, 265lbs. She wound up being an 8-time indoor/outdoor NCAA shot put champion. Great kid.

And aren't they responsible for starting the haka at the Trinity games?
