Sandra Bland
I just watched most of the stop and arrest dashcam video. What I saw.
The trooper was finishing an earlier stop where he issued a warning to the driver. Ms Bland's car is in the video, she runs a stop sign during a right turn.
The trooper makes a u turn to follow, she changes lanes without a signal, he lights her up, she pulls over.
He approaches the passenger side of her car and asks a few questions, gets her DL and other info and returns to his patrol unit.
He prepares a warning ticket for failure to signal lane change, ignores the stop sign violation.
He goes back to the drivers side of the car, asks her what is wrong, most was inaudible but she seemed to vent about being stopped.
The trooper asks her to put out her cigarette, she refuses and starts a verbal assault toward the trooper.
The trooper then tells her to get out of the car, she refuses and continues to curse at the trooper.
The trooper then attempts to remove her from the car, she fights and curses the trooper.
After the trooper gets her out of the car she refuses to obey commands, she pulls away several times before the trooper gets her cuffed.
She continues to try to evade/escape the troopers control and at one point kicks the officer(this is corroborated by a black lady local cop) who was on scene for a good part of the time, just out of camera range. You can hear her giving commands to Bland on the video.
Bland accuses both officers of trying to break her wrists.
My opinion of the stop and arrest is that it was good top to bottom.
All the trooper was going to do was give her a warning and send her down the road, she let her mockingbird mouth get her into jail. At no point before she started showing off was the trooper ever rude or loud with her.
On her death while in custody I have no opinion, we don't have any facts on that yet.

A Officer of the Law overly full of his Authority collides with a Black Lives Matter nut job with a boulder on her shoulder, and the goat rodeo is on.

Some people just don't know how to pick their battles. I've gotten out of a few tickets just by being polite & cooperative. That includes one I really deserved, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle with lights & siren on. I knew he was passing me, he knew I knew, but I still didn't move out of his way.
A bad peace inevitably leads to a worse war.

They were giving you a "White Privilege" pass.
Re: Sandra Bland
What everyone is fixating on is the cop's warning that he is going to "light her up."
Out of control cop. Whatever she did or didn't do becomes irrelevant. To some.

Re: Sandra Bland
she is sitting in the car , why didn't the cop just hand her the ticket and send her on her way . What the deal with her cigarette ??
Re: Sandra Bland
The fastest way to get rid of a cop is to just do what he says. Why escalate it?

I think 2 people with attitudes met up and it ended with her death. Both did not treat the other with respect.

His attitude had nothing to do with her death.

When he returned to her car she was agitated, he asked her what was wrong, she started mouthing. Cops ask people to extingush smokes to avoid being burned.

He treated her with complete respect right up to the moment she got mouthy, was only going to issue a warning. His involvement with her ended when she hit the jail.

So why meet escalation..with more escalation.
Yes, she was mouthy..but he was screaming maniacally at the top of his lungs.
If he had a warning ready..why not just give if to her and let her drive off?
What was the reason for..put the cigarette out..get out of the car..I'm going to drag you out..handcuffs..I'm giving you a lawful order,..(whatever that means)..taser threatening...
How about just let the freaky, mouthy lady go away..and we can all live to tell about the weird thing that happened today.
If you’re “woke”..you’re a loser.
Re: Sandra Bland
lady is mouthy , well , so what , hand her the ticket and let her leave . Seems to me that the cig was made into an issue and then the telling her to get out of the car .
Re: Sandra Bland
The cop chose the cigarette as his hill to die on. If his judgement isn't any better than that, he has no business patrolling the highways by himself.

Sandra Bland chose the cigarette as her hill to die on, so to speak.

Re: Sandra Bland
The cop handeled it wrong, so say other senior officers who have spoken up. His training went away as soon as the cigarette situation cvame up. Lots of ways to safely get past that point. Its a sad case, in all respects.
but: Dont mouth the officers, your not going to win !

She was a person on the edge. A trainwreck ready to happen. Going to jail pushed her over. If it hadn't been that it would have been something else.

Re: Sandra Bland
As was discussed, with the last death in police custody, it's the cop's job not to get riled. He failed at that job.
The other thing, I saw yesterday, was a clip of the cop talking about what had happened. The video had clearly been cut and spliced in at least 2 places. Why?

A few new details. She had marijuana in her system and had tried to commit suicide before when she lost a baby. She had only been in Texas for a day and was getting ready to start a job.
