Cecil the Lion

Postby ann jusko » Wed Jul 29, 2015 7:21 am

The internet was on fire last night. Cecil a national treasure in Zimbabwe, was killed illegally by a MN dentist. Apparently he paid $55,000 to kill a lion. Cecil was led off the park preserve onto a nearby farm, by dragging a dead animal behind a truck. Cecil's body was found, headless and skinned just outside the preserve. The dentist's office is closed and the blinds down. Gee, I wonder if he thinks he's now being hunted. We do know Zimbabwe is going to prosecute.

And shortly after reading all this last night, my husband came in and told me about the baby giraffe at the zoo. At least it was instant and not malicious.

Hunting,to some, means tied or caged animals. Those people have issues.

I don't get the big game hunt, but I feel a little bad for the dentist. There are plenty of legitimate hunts. I don't think this guy knew he was paying to bag a pet. What's going to happen to the group that set up the kill for him?

I'm sure I'm out of tune with what's important.
There are roughly 44 murders a day in the US.
It's been 29 days since the lion was killed.
That makes 1276 human deaths that are much more important than the death of any animal.
Every one of those should be blazing the internet before Cecil is even mentioned, much less grieved over.

Am I supposed to know of a lion named Cecil?

I don't even know one named Fred.

Of course, you're supposed to know about him. You're also supposed to know about any well known dogs, cats or cockroaches.

If you want to eliminate African Big Game; end sport hunting; that will do it quicker than anything.

This event stinks; it does not sound like a fair chase hunt.

What I read was that the lion was lured to a spot and killed.

I don't understand big game hunting but then I don't understand the desire to hunt period. But that's just me. And I really don't understand wanting to have the dead animals looking at you from the walls in perpetuity. Would keep me awake at night.

Ditto to all that..and I'll add I don't get the desire to pose with a dead majestic animal.

Me either. Seeing those pix makes me sad. This from a woman who has a client who builds air pistols, rifles, and shotguns. Photoshopping and posting those slideshows and pix of people posing with poor dead bleeding animals was not a pleasant experience. :(

I have a friend from high school who is a hunter. Saved money for years so he could go to hunt in Africa. Think he made two trips. He killed a lot of animals and paid to have them mounted. He has a large room in his house where he displays them. He's a very nice guy, lived in the same town his whole life and retired from the post office.

they have or had a very nice Polar Bear mounted in a bank in 'santa monica' , beautiful mounting but I'd rather have the guy made into a blanket . Couple of Coats would probably be the better option if I was still in the U.P. . -------------------------------- Polar Bear Coat would be quite the conversation starter in 1967 in Andy's on 'peanut night' and it'd keep me warm as I stumbled and hitchhiked home in a blizzard !!

Polar Bear meat is supposed to be fishy tasting so no good except to eskimos or the starving white , black , yellow , red or other color hue of human being .

Sounds a lot like TX hunters feeding deer all year so they can kill them when the hunting season starts.

Hunting Deer over a feeder from a stand has ruined Deer Hunting, IMO.

But there is certainly no shortage of Deer....

general comment . ----------------- have heard that African countries make big money off of big game hunting . Shoot an elephant and the carcass feeds some very happy villagers that are happy to do the butchering from what I've heard . This 'cecil' deal might be different , I don't know but to me its just another lion . There are lots more of the same thing in Africa .

i PUT ANY ANIMAL MORE IMPORTANT THAN THIS CREEP.

It sounds like the family was murdered- not the carjacker.
Which of the family members do you think was less important than an animal?
