Wine question

Postby crocmommy » Thu Jul 30, 2015 4:47 pm

is there anyone who enjoys wine here? I need to buy a birthday for a friend who really doesn't have room to keep anything where she is staying so thinking about buying her a bottle. Any suggestions for about 25?

My wife has gotten into some of the local Texas wines. One of her favorites is the Fiesta winery out of Bend (Lometa). They have an online presence. She has a couple she likes, Skinnydippin" and I can't remember the other. I'll ask when I get home. We can get these at our local Specs.

She also likes a Llano blush, but I don't know who makes it. Not expensive, but it what she drinks the most of...

We drink wine here..but I'm the wrong one to ask.

Wine..even quality wine, is inexpensive here.

I've never spent that much on a bottle of wine.

6.99 or 7.99 is plenty to spend around here for a decent wine.

I would be good with that. What types do you drink?

BV Merlot is pretty good..typically 5.99 or 6.99 here.

So are Bogle wines..so are Copolla wines.

Estancia Cabernet..even better than BV.

But if I was buying a wine as a gift, yes, I'd spend more simply because everyone knows how inexpensive most Napa Valley, Sonoma or Paso Robles wines are here.

Blush is my wife's favorite too. Pretty cheap. If you buy 3 bottles at Central Market you get 20% off.

What? no recommendations from Heiney Winery?

I'm a red wine person....the drier the better. Current favorites are chiantis. And yes, I buy cheap wines too so couldn't advise on $25 wine though I have bought Rodney Strong cab that I really liked. Think it's about $19.

Hess Chardonay is very good. If you like sweet wine look for a German riesling spatelase.

Thanks, I just ended up buying her a bottle of Layer Cake Chardonnay and some chocolate. There are so many wines in the aisle at Target that it's mind boggling.
