Big controversy in Sulphur Springs
BTW, the bathrooms they are talking about cost an insane $10,000 per panel and there are 2 of them. Just 2 of the incredibly stupid and expensive projects of the current city management.

I think it's cute and WTH is wrong with those people on the board? IF I'm not mistaken, that building used to house a great homey restaurant. They even had hash! And it was delicious.

I don't know about this stupid board but to me nothing says "We're a hick town" like being proud of glass bathrooms right smack dab on the square and thinking a potato sign is trashy. And yes, I think you are right about the restaurant.
They now call downtown Sulphur Springs "Celebration District" There has been a big push to put a bunch of restaurants down there. It's all about "branding" the city. Sheeeeesssssssshhhhhhhhh.

Sue, do you ever go to Mineola? Last time I was out there several years ago, I liked it enough that I wouldn't even mind living there.

I love Mineola and the countryside around Lindale reminds me of parts of Kentucky. Beautiful green and rolling. The Mineola/Lindale area was one of the places we talked about living back when we first came back to Texas. But there was no work there for either of us. Had we known then that we would wind up working as we are we could have lived almost anywhere.
It's pretty here but not nearly as pretty as that area................and their soil is so much better than ours.

It's been a while but it seems like downtown Mineola was still active even though they had a Walmart. Usually Walmart kills downtown businesses.

Been awhile for me too. They had the hardware store/restaurant as one of the big draws. And I think the railroad station was revived and made functional. They have been working on revitalization for more than 20 years.

I think there are some people with money in that area.
Have you ever seen downtown Dennison? When I drove through there several years ago, it was blocks of empty buildings. So very sad because it looked like Dennison must have had a sizable busy downtown a long time ago.

It's been a very long time since I've been to Denison. Don't they have a huge outlet mall or am I confusing it with another town up there? That may have killed the businesses.

I think there is a lot of this going on. As someone said earlier it's all great publicity for the restaurant. I have yet to see a post that is anti potato but public sentiment has never been a concern for the powers that be in SS.

My kids designated Sulphur Springs as "The witches castle", (courthouse). If we needed to go to Sulphur Springs, the kids would say "We're going to the witches castle!" We did use the library and I loved the women's dress store there. I only remember it had University in the name.

The only one left is Lou Nells. I think they have been around forever.
I think the courthouse is the best thing about downtown - but yeah, it does kinda look like a witch's castle in a way.
You should see what they have done to the square, Ann. If you have ever played one of those games where you do something and earn money so that you can add things to your virtual house or town you would understand the square. They keep adding things and adding things like big chess and checkerboards, trees, lights in trees and in sidewalks, war memorial, soldier memorial, memorial bench, splash fountain. It feels like they are trying to cram anything and everything possible into that space.............and not necessarily in a tasteful manner. Heck, the tree and sidewalk lights have revolving colors for goodness sakes. At first glance it looks nice. The more you look the tackier it appears. Little town trying entirely too hard to be something it's not and in too small a space.
Courthouse for those of you who don't know what we're talking about.
