I remember wearing long gloves to a formal dance in Nursing School in 1966 or 67. Don't think I wore short gloves, except for the cold weather, much past the late 50s. But I think dressier occasions called for them, for adults, into the mid 60s. Now Queen Elizabeth..................................

I can never remember them being every day attire. Sunday to church, yes. Maybe the more sophisticated women (like the women who went to tea parties) wore them every day.

The "requirement" to wear them for dressy events died sometime between 1963 and 1967.

I specifically remember my freshman year in college (63) that they were part of my attire.
Here is a joke for you........For a college football game that fall, I wore heels, hose, a wool suit and carried gloves because I also wore a hat.

Heels at a football game. Yeah, in retrospect it's pretty stupid.
I remember dressing up to go downtown and to the doctor's office. So glad those days are loooooooooooong gone.

We didn't wear short gloves to church but to a wedding, yes. To a formal, definitely long gloves. But now most of what used to be formal is now semi-formal, so no gloves. Somewhere along the way, the semi-formal meant the men could wear suits and the women could wear long formal dresses or "cocktail" dresses. I'm not sure when it changed but most of the women wanted to wear cocktail or dressy short dresses that could be worn for other events or even church. I'm glad we "evolved".

I live in Texas and don't own a suit or tie either. Nor do I own a dress, skirt, heels, slip, or any other uncomfortable clothes. Yep, I'm a slob and proud of it.

People dress nicely here. I think I do, too. It's just that when we have to "dress up" there is no time I ever have to wear a suit and tie.

I've only been to one in the 35 years I have lived in California..about a year ago.
