What words would attract people to this board?
Txdigest.com has gained a couple of new members through items posted by Library Lady. Both LL's posts were about traffic or street conditions. Obviously, the two people who joined in order to respond found the site through Google searches about their topics of interest.
So, what words or phrases if posted here would pop up and attract the interest of fine, upstanding new members through Google searches?
Eh, eh, eh?

"FREE" The most searched word on the internet is "Free".

How about FREE BEER ?
Re: What words would attract people to this board?
Not sure on this end, seems a few came from DD and didn't stay for whatever reason. I didn't do the Face-Book thing because I don't do face-book, twitter or any of those. That is just me. A Bubba Free Zone does't work as I saw him the other day and seem to think he is one of the "lurkers". I don't care one way or the other. Let it rest. As long as you guys will let me rant and rave about idiots on the roads my Pit-Bulls and my God-Son Stephen, I am here for the long run. I will also put things up here that will make some go "WHAT?" But then again it is just me saying what I think.
Old DD Members come on over. This is a good place.

I don't get the preoccupation with guests. They are adults (presumably). If they want to join they will join.

I think sometimes it's just us. I don't log in when I'm using my Kindle because it's too hard to post on it. It autocorrects and it's hard to type on, but I will look at what's already posted.

And do not forget "tools". I'm always looking to find a tool for this or that.
Four boxes keep us free:
the soap box, the ballot box, the jury box, and the cartridge box.

Re: What words would attract people to this board?
things like 'gun show' or other much talked about topics are hard to rank for in google....... unless people are going to page 3 results.... hard to be seen for stuff like that.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_tail
gun show would be in the 'head' of the graph shown at the wiki link..... known as a power law graph (or popularity law graph)
topics that are less popular and in the 'long tail' are easy to dominate in google.
anyone remember a long time ago.... some soldier was shot and killed after he got home. or there was a mystery surrounding the death.... i dont recall.
well, anyway, not a lot of media coverage for it except in tx. and one of his family members found the dd because it ranked high in the search engines.
did any of that make sense?
regardless.... discussion boards are by their very nature the kings of the long tail. we talk about EVERYTHING..... including self prostate exams(remember that one?) and vile acts with pandas
so we just keep talking about the things we talk about...... but we need to give the board a shot in the arm with some good google juice. to do that there needs to be links back to the board from other websites.

Thinking the same thing myself. In other words, we need to get the name http://txdigest.com mentioned on other Internet sites. But how do we do that? On Facebook pages perhaps.

Never argue with a Moron, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience every time.

fb is fine.... but multiple links from fb lose their juice.
so.... commenting on blogs is a good way. most allow you to put in your name/email/website and that info shows next to your comment.
many put code in their blog software so your website link is tagged as 'nofollow' which means the google bots do not recognize/follow the link.
there is a browser plugin for firefox https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... odofollow/
so you can snoop on the site to see if it is dofollow or nofollow
