Wow. As of today, the other discussion board I've been reading for 10 years or more has totally shut down with NO warning. Didn't even get to print off my bookmarks which were filled with useful info.

LibraryLady....you were reading there, did you see this today? I'm going to have a lot of time on my hands to do things I should have been doing instead of reading discussion boards, evidently.

Nope. All discussions ended at 11 am and the FAQ says the boards are closed. The store will stay open with minimal operation til 7/10.

I know, LL...me too. I will miss that board for all the interesting discussions that would not have been brought up on DD....and all the new products they introduced me to. It was a fascinating board.

I did find my bookmarks and printed some of the threads....I sent a couple of people I'd chatted with on pm a message to see where everyone went....will let you know if the ladies there congregate somewhere else and I find it.

Apparently it began as a place for scrapbooking folks to exchange info.........and involved to general discussion. Since it was women only, sometimes health issues were discussed and other things that women might talk about.

I am asking because I think I know of a similar situation. Was this site hosted by a manufacturer of scrapbooking supplies?

A couple of years ago, a model railroad forum hosted by one of the largest model railroad manufacturers in this country shut down what was arguably the biggest and most visible model railroading forum on the web. Their excuse for shutting it down was that it was too expensive; they had several employees who did nothing but moderate the site. I thought it to be a mistake, because it was a good source of product information and a great way to inform modelers about product availability (a big issue in today's model train world). I thought they could have acquired some marketing or management interns to moderate the site. A rescue site has popped up; but it is nothing like the old site. I migrated to another site for my train fix.

I just began to visit the site in the last 6 months. Since I don't do SB, I just visited the "general discussion" part of the site.

I'll have to say this, some of those women were VERY harsh/disrespectful and generally offensive.
