My Farmer just planted Wheat on my place last week, probably a month to 6 week later because of lack of rain.

Cowman are you seeing cheaper fertilizer and chemical costs, due to the drop in Oil Prices ?

Not so much, fertilizer bought today was made some time ago, so it may be a year behind in changing. Went to brownwood to take home a dozer rake, bought fuel for 1.70, thought it was a mis post but no. Lot of farmers doing what grandad did years back, summer fallow some ground, it helps on the fertility.

I am still pricing Tractors, any 4WD drive model with a Loader worth a damn is expensive.

I wish I could find a good clean Ford 3930 or 4610 4wd with a loader.

Cattle prices are soft because the boxed beef demand is way soft. A 1300 pound steer in the feedlot has to be moved pretty quick. The boxed beef can sit for some time until demand goes up, but that makes buyers backup in regards to buying a bunch of cattle. Wheat isn't ready for a grazing just yet, the drought and the rain have delayed planting and torn in.
Cattle numbers are too low for prices to drop much and demand is not any weaker. The calf that was bringing 1350 is now bringing about 900. Ain't bad but when not too long ago they brought 350 on a good day.

Sorry I have been away since earlier this morning. Coleman pretty much nailed it with his explanation. As he stated, last year prices were exceptionally high. They are down from those levels but still darn good compared to "normal" Times.

It's the federal government's requirement that we burn corn in our vehicles.

I remember how upset my grandad was when gas went to 30 cents a gallon...probably in the early 70's.

I saw 25 - 27 cents a gallon when I was pumping gas and smoking a Camel as a pump jockey at KAYO in about 69 . Boy how times have changed . I thought it was the end of the world in about 1974 when gas went to 50 cents a gallon . ----------- memories may not be accurate as to details !!
