My brother

Postby kathy » Fri Nov 20, 2015 8:23 pm

Many of you have prayed for my brother during his three tours over the years. He has been in the Air National Guard since the tender age of 18 and he is now 48. He was deployed to Kuwait in the late 80's and was in Kirkuk at the beginning of the Gulf War and in Bagdad about 6 years ago.

He made Master Sergeant a few years ago!

Got this in an email a couple of weeks ago and thought you'd like to hear about it:

Please join us to celebrate CMSGT Michael A. Pieper's military retirement.
When: 5 December 2015
Time: 1530 (3:30PM)
Where: Blue Ash ANGS, 10649 McKinley Road, Blue Ash, Ohio, 45242

Heartfelt thanks for your prayers and support over the years <3 Kathy

Chief

They tried a long time ago to get him to become an officer but he preferred being enlisted.

Is there no possible way you could fly up for the day? It will be so moving. BTW, CMSGT are the revered ones. Officers listen to THEM. We were boarding a plane and I told the commander "I'm not a good flyer so I'll be watching your face the entire trip." He said "Well, I'll be watching CMSGT's face. He knows every noise, squeak,fibration...." The chief ended up sitting beside me. Steve was in the window seat and we were coming in for landing. Steve said "Chief, is the cowling supposed to come off like that?" YIKES! The chief said "Yeah, but we're coming in way too hot." And bang....I felt like the cartoon "Did we land or were we shot down?" BTW, the commander was a pilot so that just shows you the respect for ChiefMSGTs.

The commander was John King. Anyone from around Rockwall or Greenville will know him from the road named after him. It wasn't just "boots on the ground" who were affected by Agent Orange. John died of cancer a few years ago. My favorite pilot EVER died last year from Agent Orange.

Tell me about it.....we've lost so many friends. My brother's holding his own for now. I'm trying to convince him to move into an assisted living very close to us. I'm going to talk to him again today. His angel neighbors aren't able to visit him now. Clay came down with Lyme disease and was hospitalized for weeks. He is one of two who were in their mid 70's who survived in Rhode Island. He's at home but has to use a walker. It's hard because I'm getting ready for a big Thanksgiving family dinner, and thinking of him alone. I know he loves Rhode Island, but there won't be anyone able to visit him. Maybe the financial aspect of it will help him decide. Assisted living in Rhode Island is $6,000+ a month. Here, it's $3,000 and it's a lovely facility about 2 miles from us.
