I am almost out of RC airplane inventory. I went to a local fun fly / swap meet yesterday to try to get rid of stuff; and a small town part-time hobby shop ended up buying me out. He might look at my RC car inventory as well.

What's the difference between "radio controlled" and "drones"?

Drones are controlled by satellite link; so they can fly for miles...

RC is basically line of sight; if you lose sight of it, you will probably lose the aircraft.

When I first got into the hobby business; I went to a demonstration at the local RC club of a plane that was going to compete for a government contract. Don't think they were successful, at least not winning the contract...

Satellite link? I suppose you have to be federally licensed to use a satellite, whereas with a remote controlled aircraft you can just buy one and fly away. Right?

Theoretically. Unless you have a small "park flyer" designed to be flow at parks, baseball fields, soccer fields, etc.; you'll need to fly at a RC airfield; primarily because you need lots of open space and nothing to fly into. It is generally easier to learn at an RC field, because generally there is someone there who can teach you with a buddy box; that is, an additional radio hard wired to your radio, that lets your instructor take over in case of emergency.

I still managed to destroy an airplane while under instruction. That's the problem with RC planes. Every RC plane that flies regularly, will crash...

We were walking the dog one afternoon near Burleson's one and only lake when a fellow drove up in a pickup and took a HUGE remote control plane out of the bed of the truck. Must have had a 6-foot wingspan. It was equipped with pontoons and he put it on the lake. A quick takeoff and one lap around the lake and the man landed the craft, plucked it out of he water, put it back into the pickup and was gone. The whole visit couldn't have taken over 10 minutes. I guess it was a test run.

There are folks in the hobby that build planes for the sake of building planes; he could be testing out a plane before putting it on the market. Some hobby shops take consignments of planes like that; because there are folks who are looking to buy "turn key" planes. They were in the hobby to fly, not to build. If you are ever in a hobby shop that has planes hanging from the ceiling; most of those are consignment planes. I used to keep a couple on my ceiling of my shop. Nowadays; the manufacturers are selling planes that are ready to fly as well; and the cost is lower than a kit plus the labor to build it.

Happy day II; the guy called back last night, and wants everything RC related I have! Now I can get into a smaller storage unit; with the goal of getting out of the unit soon. I still have lots of train inventory and plastic models, though...

Bodine, any N Scale stuff?

I have buildings, lots of detail parts, some Micro Trains cars (old releases), a half dozen engines, vehicles & figures. The local N scale guys hit me up for most of my engines, track and cars.
