So you insist that a news report is erroneous because there is no evidence to substantiate the claim, and then you insist that you are the victim of racism - even though there is no evidence to substantiate the claim.

Zachary Thompson, director of Dallas County Health and Human Services, accused local media outlets Monday of inaccurately reporting that he and his department were under federal investigation for problems related to Ryan White AIDS funding.

“That’s a lie by NBC5 that said we were under federal investigation,” he said during a media briefing at the health department.

The county receives about $25 million in annual Ryan White funding that is disbursed to local HIV/AIDS agencies that provide services for people who suffer from the disease. The disbursal is decided by the local Ryan White Planning Council, a separate group, he said.

The earlier reports stemmed from a visit by the Health Resources and Services Administration to the county health department. The purpose was to check that the funding complied with legislative and program requirements, which are enforced by that agency.

Thompson called the visit “routine” and insisted no significant problems were found, although some changes were subsequently implemented by the county as a result of that visit, he said Monday.

Thompson released a two-page letter from the federal Department of Health and Human Services, stating that the federal agency “did not conduct any investigation on your program.” However, the letter, which you can read below, also stated that the agency’s inspector general was looking into a hotline complaint involving a Dallas-area vendor that receives Ryan White funds.

“This request was not an investigation, rather, a routine request that required a [federal government] response,” the letter said of the hotline tip. The letter was signed by Steven R. Young, director of the federal division of metropolitan HIV/AIDS.

Thompson, who is black, further accused NBC5′s reporting of being “racist” in regards to him.

“I’ve been followed for two blocks and asked questions that I have no answer on,” he explained. “I don’t see anybody else being followed for two blocks.”

Thompson also said he felt it was racist “for me to be targeted as director of Dallas County Health and Human Services. I have not been implicated in any manner.”

Thompson asked the local news media to issue a retraction of any previous reports about the so-called Ryan White investigation.

Channel 5 did a story tonight about the agency giving them bad information --saying the office was being investigated when it was not.

I don't think 5 apologized--just read the letter where xx said "We gave channel 5 erroneous information."
