Who knew? Dublin isn't named for the Irish city

Postby Bob Of Burleson » Sun Jul 06, 2014 10:56 am

Most of Dublin’s nearly 3,900 residents believe the connection to Ireland’s capital city is mythical and that the town is named after the early settler expression “doublin’ up” — circling covered wagons at night to defend against Plains attackers. ("Plains attackers," that's the politically correct term for "Injuns." )

I find it odd that most of the residents don't believe the connection to Ireland because the city celebrates St. Patrick's Day.

My husband is part Irish and was not impressed with the Irish Capital of Texas when we visited years ago.
