The LeMat was a good idea and a good enough product to be used by several top Confederates. Its downfall was that it could not be adapted to metallic cartridges and came along too late. That French gyrojet thing deserves the top two or three places for sorry guns.

No, that was another goofy French idea, just trying to be different for its own sake. It combined the features of a revolver with a magazine-fed handgun and fired a cartridge that was triangular in cross section.
