America: No longer 1 nation, 1 people

Postby BillB » Tue Jul 15, 2014 9:00 pm

Here's a great article by Pat Buchanan on what immigration is doing to the country.
It's well worth reading.

"We were not a nation of immigrants in 1789," Pat says in the WorldNetDaily op-ed piece.

I doubt that because the U.S. population of about 4 million included roughly 800,000 blacks, a large percentage of whom were born in Africa.

Then we had the Native Americans, who weren't immigrants but certainly weren't citizens. Another 10 or 20 percent?

Next carve a chunk out of the good old lily-white Anglo population because a big bunch of them were immigrants themselves, mostly from Great Britain.

Not a nation of immigrants. Hmmph.

In Federalist No. 2, John Jay wrote, “Providence has been pleased to give this one connected country to one united people – a people descended from the same ancestors, speaking the same language, professing the same religion, attached to the same principles of government, very similar in their manners and customs. … ”

From the article linked to above.

Even back in earliest colonial times there were at least these four groups:
Indians/Native Americans
"white" immigrants
Slaves
Indentured servants
Those 4 groups didn't have the same value systems nor same goals.
Even the European immigrants had very different ideas and were not united.......

Well sure..if you're going to count all the people that weren't considered people.
