Casey Kasem's body is missing, daughter says

Postby Bob Of Burleson » Sat Jul 19, 2014 7:48 am

By Jane Caffrey, CNN

The family battle that surrounded radio host Casey Kasem during his final days continues to rage on after his death.

Although the 82-year-old passed away on June 15, his body has yet to be buried. Now, according to Danny Deraney, the publicist for Kasem's daughter Kerri Kasem, the family doesn't know where his body is.

"We are not surprised," Kerri Kasem told to CNN. "We expected something like this to happen."

Discord between Kasem's wife of more than 30 years, Jean Kasem, and his adult children from his first marriage led to multiple legal clashes and court hearings in the months before to Kasem died.

Kerri Kasem was given a conservatorship over her father's health, which Jean Kasem subsequently fought in court, claiming his children were prematurely ending their father's life.

Deraney says Jean Kasem has now removed her husband's body from a funeral home in Washington state.

Most states the body belongs to the widow/spouse.

At this point the children should accept that he has been buried or cremated and move forward. If the children want a service, that can be done without a body or ashes.....just have the service when/where they wish and move on.

They could check this Fort Worth funeral home

Johnson Family Mortuary Manager
Faces Abuse of a Corpse Charges

Ben Russell, NBC 5 News

The manager of the the Fort Worth funeral home where eight decaying, unrefrigerated bodies, including two infants', were found, faces seven counts of abuse of a corpse.

Rachel Hardy-Johnson, who state records show managed the Johnson Family Mortuary, was arrested Friday and charged with seven counts of abuse of a corpse, according to a police statement.

She was arraigned and was to be transported to a Tarrant County jail with bond set at $10,500, but it was unclear if she had an attorney, said Officer Sharron Neal, a Fort Worth police spokeswoman. Court records do not list an attorney.

Johnson's husband, Dondre Johnson, and his twin brother, Derrick Johnson, run the home, according to the business' website.

Seven corpse-abuse counts also were filed against Dondre Johnson, but he was not yet in custody Friday evening, Neal said. He has been contacted and is expected to turn himself in, but it was unknown when, she said.

Abuse of a corpse, a Class A misdemeanor, is punishable by up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $4,000 per count.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office has said seven of the eight bodies found Tuesday at the business were in advanced stages of decomposition, though none showed signs of trauma or foul play. The Johnsons' landlord notified authorities after he went to the facility and found the bodies, but no workers.

The head of a Washington state funeral home that had initial responsibility for radio personality Casey Kasem says he personally made sure his remains were put on a flight to Montreal last Monday.

Corey Gaffney, the president of Gaffney Funeral Home of Tacoma, says he confirmed the remains arrived in Montreal and media reports suggesting they have disappeared are not true.

Some U.S. media outlets quoted Kasem's daughter Kerri as saying her father's remains were missing.

In the months before his death June 15, Kasem's daughter has been embroiled in a battle with his wife of the past 34 years, Jean Kasem, over the welfare of the legendary radio star.

A death certificate filed in a Washington State court July 15 listed Montreal funeral home Urgel Bourgie as the place of disposition, and July 14 as the date of disposition.
