Anyone ever been there? Opinions of it? My wife is going there in a few weeks.

Been there twice, my favorite of the islands. See the volcano. walk on the lava fields, go watch the lava dumping into the ocean. I went to Emerald beach, the Black Beach and lots of waterfalls. Two cities to go see, Kona is where they have the Iron Man competition, Hilo is on the other side of the Island and a totally different atmosphere.

Wrong island....Big Island , aka Hawaii...is the southern one.

Kauai is the northern one.

Been over 50 years since I visited Kauai, so can't make recommendations, red is correct about the Big Island, only been 31 since I last visited there.

I appreciate the response. The main thing is that I want her to have a great trip.

I have a cousin who has lived on the Big Island for 20 + years and will see her this weekend. If I remember Ill see if she knows some neat places. She has kids and in laws on different islands.

We're celebrating my parents 70th anniversary Saturday, that's why I might forget to ask.

Hope she has a good time.

I did not visit that island so I have no hints to offer.

I plead guilty by reason of being an old fart. And what makes it more embarrassing is that I have family that live there. I think that's where they shot the Elvis movie "Blue Hawaii"and Isn't that where they have the Fern Grotto? They also shot scenes for one of the Viet Nam movies and parts of Jurassic Park movies there.
My cousin flies for one of the helicopter tour companies there.
