Robo callers go up a notch

Postby LibraryLady2 » Sat Aug 05, 2017 4:57 pm

Yesterday land line began to ring. At exact same time, my cell phone began to ring.
Caller ID told me it was not a call I was going to answer.

This afternoon, repeat of yesterday's call.
I just verified--those calls were from the same number.
So, somehow they can dial a person's 2 possible numbers simultaneously.

I have blocked my quota on the cell phone.
Caller ID is worth every penny I pay to keep me from answering the land line spam calls.

My mother keeps getting these calls. She doesn't ever answer them but it really bugs her.

I'd much rather answer and hang up than listen to the phone ring several times before the answering machine comes on or they hang up.

There was an article in the Star-Telegram a couple of years ago (?) about a service that blocks robo calls. The author had interviewed the people who run the company and described the service. We looked into it and decided to give it a try. It works beautifully. When a robo call comes through our landline rings once and stops. So we know that the caller wasn't a real person. It's great. It's called NOMOROBO. Here is a link: https://www.nomorobo.com/

I see they now also offer their service for iPhones. I am going to go sign up.

I hope this will help you.

We never answer the house phone. Let calls go to the answering machine. Most are hang ups.

Family now communicates by cellphones. We use a call blocking app called Truecaller.

The new thing in unwanted phone calls is to spoof the number so that caller ID makes it appear that the incoming call is from the same exchange as your own number.

If an incoming call on my phone displays a number and not a name from my address book, then I simply do not answer the phone. If it is an important call from somebody not in my address book, then they can leave me a voice mail.
