VPN for internet security

Postby LibraryLady2 » Thu Nov 30, 2017 3:22 pm

Do any of you use a VPN for your internet browsing?
Avast wants to sell me the product --$79 per year for 5 devices.

Will I have more codes and passwords to remember?

and this

So, if I purchase the VPN, do es that mean some gov sites will block me?

It is confusing.

I don't see any need for VPN just for surfing. If you are sending and receiving files that are sensitive, yeah. Dealing with banks and buying via credit card on the web is protected by making sure the address is a HTTPS site the S means secure. VPN will reduce browsing speed.

If you really really really want VPN it is available for free.

I am required to use a VPN for a bunch of stuff I do for work. It's generally just a pain in the ass, just another layer of passwords to enter before I can get anything done.

I agree with Steve. I don't feel like I need one at home for what I do.

Some pointless information: I block VPNs at the school because kids like to use them to get around our content filter. I guess they are handy for that.

Thanks, Jim Jack and Steve.

When trying to investigate the matter, I read that some .gov sites won't let a VPN access the site.
