Your most prized possession

Postby Sangersteve » Sat Aug 02, 2014 8:13 pm

We all have things, most of of us have one thing we like the best.

What is the one thing that is closest to your heart?

Florence Nightingale babies, and I know we have a bunch of them, this is my pick.

The Baby Shoe planter given to my mother(came with an ivy from my maternal grandmother in New York), inside the planter is my baby bracelet and birth announcement. It also holds the keys to the gun cabinet, and in that gun cabinet are the long guns given to me by my dad, that were passed down to him from my paternal grandfather.

So I guess the planter is a patchwork quilt of the broken family that created me.
It's a joke son,I say a joke

I have a lot of "things" that I treasure..quilts handmade by my grandmother's, photographs that can't be replaced, notes my kids wrote. But if I have to pick one thing, it would be the new wedding ring hubby bought me on our 35th anniversary. I didn't ask for it, he chose the setting and I love it. But the words he said when he gave it to me are priceless.

Prissy.

Honorable mention for Mei-Ling.

The rest is just meaningless "stuff."

My kitty cat and a gold James Avery bracelet my dad gave my mom many years ago. I've spent the last ten years cleaning out, keeping only what is near and dear to me and I can safely say I could put my possessions in a shoebox and be happy. The rest is simply stuff. I held on to family heirlooms for the longest time, and once I lost the emotional attachment, it was simple to discard. I carefully chose what meant the most to me and donated, sold and gave away.

My mother's first little prayer book she got when she took her "first communion". I also have my uncle's, but he died as a small child, so I never knew him. Today though, I'm going to be cherishing my new car. That'll last a few days.

An original bluebonnet painting by a famous Texas artist.

No. Not me.
