Lowering cholesterol

Postby LibraryLady » Wed Oct 15, 2014 11:36 am

I'm feeling happy today.
My cholesterol was 227 in Sept. 2013 and is 179 today.
YEA!!
My LDL went from 151 to 108. :)

The only thing I have done to bring it down is to take Cholest Off--a plant sterol product.
I have resisted taking any of the statins because of the side effects.

Congratulations, LL! Do you feel better physically, as well?

Don't feel any differently. Now, if I could make the pounds decline also, I KNOW I'd feel better!!

I take Niacin (500 mg) twice a day and it's cheap and works. Dropped mine from 240 to 190 and it raised the good to bad ratio.

Is Niacin the one that can give a person problems with their liver?

Many years ago, the ex had a high cholesterol issue - around 230 - but didn't want to be on drugs. He started walking every day - 2-3 miles. And we cut out stuff like ice cream, hard cheeses, beef, anything fried or overly processed. Added more veggies, grains. In about 3 months, his cholesterol dropped about 50 points - enough to get him a preferred rate on life insurance. I think just some physical activity and minor diet changes can work for a lot of people. Not everyone, but some.

hello , Ralph here , new member to this board . As far as cholesterol goes , I just watch my diet try to stay my feel / look good weight of 220 or there abouts . I'm 6 foot 3 so i'm pretty slim , to my eyes . Doctor says its good but I'm sure that new guidelines would disagree [BMI] . Doctor never mentioned cholesterol as being a problem and I never asked . I am 220 at 6'3 but just about 6 months ago I was 265 so I started eating more vegs , lean meats , fish , less white bread , processed foods . Now everything is pretty much cooked from scratch and I try to eat what was being eaten 100 years ago . Interesting but I was 217 at 17 years of age and that was 47 years ago .

No, not as far as I know it doesn't. Some get a warm feeling and a flush, but most people don't have the problem if they take a slow release.. in any case it only lasts for 15-30 min.
Wallgreens a 200 count bottle of slow release for $20.
